HOLIDAY FOODS

We all look forward to home cooked holiday food, right?  There are healthy holiday foods and some that are lethal.  Those casseroles are so easy to feed a crowd.  But, beware of the ones that have prepared or canned ingredients if you need to watch salt or cholesterol.  The condensed soups have enough salt to threaten whatever you are trying to prevent.  They do make dishes more tasty, but most of us should limit our intake.

For dessert, make your own pie crust for fruit desserts and you can save on some ingredients you can do without.  (Read your labels.)  Same goes for pumpkin.  I usually make pumpkin from a fresh one.  That is time consuming; so I usually process and cook pumpkin a week before and refrigerate for however many pies I want.  Canned pumpkin makes a delicious pie, but has more calories and fat then the ones I make.

Happy Thanksgiving,
